MPD Public Notice

An Assessor from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), will arrive March 3, 2024, to examine all aspects of the Monroe Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services.

According to Monroe Police Chief J. Bryan Gilliard, verification by the assessor that the Monroe Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation - a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.

As a part of this process, Monroe Police provides an opportunity for public feedback via the CALEA Portal which can be located here: https://cimrs2.calea.org/254

The Monroe Police Department complies with over 400 applicable standards in order to maintain its Advanced Law Enforcement Accredited status.

“Earning accreditation from CALEA is the gold standard in public safety. It means our department complies with the highest standards set for public safety agencies across the nation. Throughout this important process, we will work together with our community partners to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability which will further our ability to serve and improve the quality of life for our residents. We look forward to the process and welcome your feedback at every step of the way,“ said Police Chief J. Bryan Gilliard.

Re-accreditation is a four-year process during which the agency must submit annual reports and submit to an annual file review to ensure compliance with the standards and the agency’s policies.

The Monroe Police Department was awarded its first accreditation award on July 28, 2007, and has been re-accredited four times receiving Advanced Accreditation in 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2020.
