2021 Spring Summer Program Guide CoverThe Monroe Parks and Recreation Department strives to provide quality recreation facilities and programs that promote healthy and active living opportunities for our residents.  We offer a variety of activities for all ages and fitness levels.  At our facilities, you can enjoy golf, swimming, athletic programs and leagues, fitness classes, senior programs and much more.  Day camps, after-school, and educational programs are offered year-round at many of our facilities.  Spend some time in one of our parks picnicking and enjoying one of our many playgrounds with your children.  Explore our downtown area as you enjoy a walk or run on the Bearskin Creek and Downtown Connector Greenways.  Or, if you prefer indoor activities, our Aquatics and Fitness Center has something for everyone.  Sign up for a membership and start your journey to a healthier life today.

MASKS ARE REQUIRED INSIDE ALL PARKS AND RECREATION FACILITIES UNLESS ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN EXERCISE!  MASKS MUST BE WORN WHEN ENTERING AND EXITING THE BUILDING AND BETWEEN EXERCISES!

  • 2021 Music On Main will begin on the 4th Thursday of every month beginning June – November.  The November concert will be held on the third Thursday (11/18) due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

  • 2021 Car Cruise In will begin on the 2nd Friday of every month beginning June – November.

  • 4th of July Celebration will be held on Sunday, July 4th.

Parks and Recreation

MASKS ARE REQUIRED INSIDE ALL PARKS AND RECREATION FACILITIES UNLESS ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN EXERCISE!  MASKS MUST BE WORN WHEN ENTERING AND EXITING THE BUILDING AND BETWEEN EXERCISES!

  • Monroe Aquatics and Fitness Center is open.  

  • All community center programs are open to the public, including Afterschool programs.  Facilities are open on a normal schedule.  All NCDHHS and CDC guidelines will be followed as it relates to afterschool and summer camp programming. 

  • All community center gymnasiums are open for Open Gym with no restrictions.  Masks are not required when actively engaged in exercise, but must be worn

  • Fitness rooms at Dickerson, Old Armory, and Winchester are open on a normal schedule with no restrictions.

  • Meeting rooms are now available at full capacity.

  • The Ellen Fitzgerald Senior Center is open with no restrictions.  Please call the Ellen Fitzgerald Senior Center at (704) 282-4657 for a program schedule.

  • All outdoor restroom facilities will be open during park hours.  Playgrounds are open to the public.

  • Picnic shelters are open to the public and now available for reservation at full occupancy.

  • All common areas in parks, greenways, and golf courses will remain open with social distancing being encouraged.

  • The Monroe Country Club golf course is open with no restrictions.

  • The Monroe Country Club golf course outdoor patio area is open with no restrictions.

  • The Monroe Country Club Ballroom is now available for reservation.
