The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department strives to provide quality recreation facilities and programs that promote healthy and active living opportunities for our residents. We offer a variety of activities for all ages and fitness levels. At our facilities, you can enjoy golf, swimming, athletic programs and leagues, fitness classes, senior programs and much more. Day camps, after-school, and educational programs are offered year-round at many of our facilities. Spend some time in one of our parks picnicking and enjoying one of our many playgrounds with your children. Explore our downtown area as you enjoy a walk or run on the Bearskin Creek and Downtown Connector Greenways. All Dowd Center Theatre events are canceled until further notice.
2021 Music On Main will begin on the 4th Thursday of every month beginning June – November. The November concert will be held on the third Thursday (11/18) due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
2021 Car Cruise In will begin on the 2nd Friday of every month beginning June – November.
Parks and Recreation

All community center programs are open to the public, including Afterschool programs. Facilities are open on a normal schedule. All NCDHHS and CDC guidelines will be followed.
All community center gymnasiums are open for Open gym on a limited schedule. Pre-registration is required. Call the specific community center for more information.
Fitness rooms at Dickerson, Old Armory, and Winchester are open on a normal schedule with NCDHS and CDC guidelines in place.
Meeting rooms are now available at an occupancy of 30. The Media Room at Old Armory Community Center is available at an occupancy of 100. All rentals are limited to seated events only and follow NCDHHS and CDC guidelines.
The Ellen Fitzgerald Senior Center is open for limited programming. Please call the Ellen Fitzgerald Senior Center at (704) 282-4657 for a program schedule.
All outdoor restroom facilities will be open during park hours. Playgrounds are open to the public.
Picnic shelters are open to the public and now available for reservation at an occupancy of 75.
All common areas in parks, greenways, and golf courses will remain open with social distancing being encouraged.
The Monroe Country Club golf course has made the following amendments in our efforts to protect both golfers and our staff as we continue on this Covid-19 journey:
1. The Pro Shop is open again with limited access.
2. Two people may share a cart with the option of one person per cart if enough carts are available.
3. Regular tee time intervals are being re-established.
4. The starter area is roped off to ensure social distancing is achieved.
5. The driving range and putting greens have been re-opened.
The Monroe Country Club golf course outdoor patio area is open with social distancing required.
The Monroe Country Club Ballroom is now available for reservation at an occupancy of 100. All rentals are limited to seated events only and will follow all NCDHHS and CDC guidelines.
