SOLID WASTE NEWS- City of Monroe offices will be closed on Monday, January 20, 2020. Waste Pro will operate on a normal schedule. Please have your items to the curb by 7:00a.m. on your regular pickup day.
The City of Monroe contracts with Waste Pro for solid waste collection. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality solid waste and recycling services to our citizens. We offer once a week garbage, bulk and yard waste service, and every other week recycling collection services. Four different solid waste trucks service these items. Please see the links to the left for more detailed information about each service.
Rules and Regulations to Ensure Timely Service Delivery:
Place your garbage cart no more than four feet from curbside no later than 7:00 a.m. on your day of service.
Remove your garbage cart from the curbside no later than 7:00 p.m. on the same day of your service to avoid receiving any violations.
When placing garbage carts at the curbside, place them with the wheels facing the home. Leave a two-foot space between your two carts and any obstructions like mailboxes, parked cars, utility poles, etc.
Carts shall not be placed on public sidewalks or streets or in such a manner to obstruct the vision of motorists or the free flow of traffic or drainage along any public street.
Do not place grass clippings, garden waste, medical waste, construction and building materials, auto parts, or hazardous waste in your garbage cart.

Special Service Assistance
The City of Monroe has a “special service” policy for residents who are unable to get their garbage and/or recyclables to the curb on their collection day. The Code of Ordinances, Chapter 55 Solid Waste, Section 55.05 (G) Exception for Backyard Collection states: “The City of Monroe may provide solid waste and recyclable backyard services to persons with disabilities provided no one in the residence or employed by the household is physically capable of moving the container from the backyard to the curbside. A doctor’s statement of disability will be required to substantiate existence of disability. Backyard garbage service will consist of only one pickup per week as established by the City. The City shall reserve the right to verify the need for extending the special services and to periodically reassess the need for such services”.
