Five City of Monroe employees and one Council Member have been recognized as being among the Top 100 Most Powerful Women of Union County in 2023.

The employees were named in the Union County Weekly's article titled "100 Most Powerful Women of Union County 2023?" published on July 12.

According to the paper, "Union County Weekly launched its 100 Most Powerful Women list a few years ago to provide a who’s who of influential women in the areas of business, education, government, politics and nonprofits. They are examples of women in leadership roles that power this community."

"It's always a proud moment when we can read in the press where people are recognized for doing good deeds and good things," said Mayor Marion Holloway.

The list included the following women in the City of Monroe: Bethany Hawver, Collections, Capt. Katie Hinson, Monroe Fire, Lt. Monique Holt, Monroe Police, Sarah McAllister, Director of Engineering, Lisa Stiwinter, Director of Planning, and Council Member Julie Thompson.

"I think each of these ladies is an example to others, and certainly an example to us. Thank you so much for all that you do and the contributions that you make to the City of Monroe," said City Manager Mark Watson.

All six women were recognized at the July 18 Regular Council Meeting
