The City of Monroe has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022.

This is the 30th consecutive year the City of Monroe has received this award.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) issued the award. The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The City’s 2022 financial report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

The GFOA says its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“This award is the direct result of the hard work and dedication of our accounting staff who ensure the City is compliant and up-to-date with the latest government accounting standards. We’re proud to present our financial report to the bondholders and residents we serve with transparency,” said Finance Director Lisa Strickland.
