Monroe City Council and City Manager Mark Watson recognized nine staff members and one resident for their efforts to improve the Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport during its regular meeting on June 13.

City staff from a number of departments gave their time and resources to providing much-needed spring cleaning and maintenance at the Airport grounds and terminal ahead of the Queen’s Cup Steeplechase and the Wells Fargo Championship in late April/early May.

“This was an opportunity for the City of Monroe to make a good first impression on a number of people who may have been visiting our City for these events. Our staff really stepped up to the plate and helped out when we needed it most, and for that we can’t possibly express how much we appreciate it,” City Manager Mark Watson told the group as they stood proudly in the Council Chambers.

The individuals recognized were Facilities Maintenance Superintendent Eric Purser, Landscape Specialist Jeff Mohr, Energy Services Director Rob Miller, Water Resources Director Scott Clark, Parks and Recreation Director Ryan Jones, and Interim Airport Manager Robert Heitz. Engineering staff were also involved in the beautification process.

City Manager Mark Watson also recognized resident Dana Kerr who volunteered her time, energy and interior design talents to spruce up and reimagine the Airport terminal.
