The Union County Planning Department, in conjunction with the 14 municipalities in the county, is opening a 30-day input period on the development of a critical intersection list. This list of intersections will guide local efforts in securing grants and coordinate efforts between the municipalities, County, and the NCDOT in improving the county's transportation system.

The input period will begin March 18 and end April 18. In addition to developing online maps and a survey, two public meetings will be held to solicit review and comments on the proposed intersections to address safety and congestion concerns throughout the county.

The first meeting will be held March 26 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Lake Park Community Center, 3801 Lake Park Road, Lake Park, NC 28079.

The second meeting will be held March 28 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Waxhaw Police Department Community Room, 3620 Providence Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173.

The public is welcome to attend these meetings at any time as no formal presentation will be made. Representatives from local municipalities and the NCDOT will be available at each meeting to discuss the initiative and answer questions.

Assisted by community input, the plan and refined list of intersections will be used by the County and municipalities when coordinating efforts with the NCDOT. This analysis will serve as an update to the 2016 Critical Intersection Analysis.
