Who Can Apply
Only 501(c)(3) nonprofits based in Union County, NC are eligible to apply. Priority is given to organizations headquartered inside Monroe City limits. Those outside Monroe, but still headquartered in Union County, may still apply.
What’s Included
Approved nonprofits will have access to the Dowd Center Theatre for their event, with basic support from staff and access to venue amenities. Additional terms apply.
Important Guidelines & Restrictions
Before submitting your request, please note the following key criteria:
- A deposit is required at the time of reservation.
- Cancellation policy:
- 60+ days notice: Full refund
- 30 to 59 days: 50% refund
- Less than 30 days: No refund
- All rentals are subject to approval and may be rescheduled or refunded by staff due to unforeseen circumstances.
- The City of Monroe/Dowd Center Theatre will be responsible for all alcohol concessions/sales.
- Private rentals may be listed on the theatre marquee if the language “Private Event” is also included.
- Privacy drapes will cover gallery windows during private rentals.
- The venue maintains a strict age policy: anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- All productions must comply with NC General Statute §14-190.1 regarding obscene or profane content.
- Renters cannot remove or cover art displayed in the lobby and gallery areas.
