The City of Monroe announces the temporary closure of the Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport on Friday, October 25, from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. due to a private event featuring a town hall with vice presidential nominee JD Vance. The private event will be held at the Boggs Hangar, located south of the main terminal building.
During this time, all airspace, including the runway, will be closed to air traffic.
Traffic Advisory:
- Paul J Helms Dr., Aviation Dr., and Airport Road Ext. will close to all traffic at 12 p.m. Friday.
- No parking is allowed along the sides of Airport Rd.
- Designated parking lots are located at: 1809 Airport Rd. and 4209 Old Charlotte Hwy (South Piedmont Community College). Shuttles will be available.
Significant congestion is expected in the surrounding areas due to the private event. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes or expect delays throughout the afternoon and evening hours. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and encourage businesses to prepare for potential impacts.
Event Schedule and Transportation Information:
- 2:15 p.m. – Shuttle service begins, transporting attendees from designated parking areas (1809 Airport Rd and South Piedmont Community College) to the airport.
- 3:00 p.m. – Doors open at the terminal for entry and mandatory security screenings.
- 6:00 p.m. – Event begins
Shuttle Information: Continuous shuttle service will run from the parking lots to the airport until the event begins at 6:00 PM. Afterward, shuttle service will only resume once vice presidential nominee JD Vance has departed the premises. Volunteers from the campaign, along with officers from the Monroe Police Department, will be assisting at the parking lots.
ADA Parking: ADA parking will be available directly in front of the terminal. This will be the only vehicle parking allowed at the terminal and will be clearly marked and roped off for accessibility.
