Monroe Lakes Close for Season on November 1

Utilities News Posted on October 14, 2025

The City of Monroe will close Lakes Lee, Monroe, and Twitty for the season on November 1, 2025. The lakes operate on a seasonal schedule, open annually from March through November, with the spring 2026 reopening scheduled for March 1, 2026.

Important Reminders:

  • All recreational activities, including fishing, boating, and other lake-related uses, are prohibited during the seasonal closure.
  • All boats must be removed from the lakes by the closure date.

Dock permit holders with extenuating circumstances may request permission to leave their boats secured at the dock over the winter. Requests must be submitted in writing by October 31, 2025, via email to:

Each request will be inspected by a City representative to ensure the boat is properly secured and all fuel has been removed.

The City of Monroe complies with North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) regulations for drinking water supply, as the lakes are classified for this purpose. We appreciate the community’s cooperation in helping us maintain this important resource.

For questions regarding the closure, please contact the Water Resources Department at (704) 282-4601.

Thank you for your support and understanding.
