Proclamation Observing Independence Day
P-2024-13


WHEREAS, the Fourth of July marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, when our forefathers courageously declared the thirteen American colonies to be free and independent states, united in their pursuit of liberty and justice for all; and 

WHEREAS, this historic event laid the foundation for the United States of America, a nation built on the principles of freedom, democracy, and the inalienable rights granted to every individual by our Creator; and 

WHEREAS, the City of Monroe joins the entire nation in celebrating Independence Day, a time to reflect on our shared values, honor the sacrifices of those who have fought and continue to fight for our freedom, and reaffirm our commitment to the ideals that define us as Americans; and 

WHEREAS, this day also serves as a reminder of our responsibility to uphold and cherish the freedoms we enjoy, to foster a sense of unity and community, and to work together towards a brighter and more prosperous future for all; and 

WHEREAS, we recognize the importance of family, faith, and community in the strength and success of our nation, as envisioned by our forefathers, and we give thanks for the blessings of liberty and the opportunities it affords us. 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert A. Burns, Mayor of the City of Monroe do hereby proclaim July 4, 2024 as: 

"INDEPENDENCE DAY" 

in the City of Monroe, and I encourage all citizens to join in the celebration of our nation's freedom and heritage. Let us come together in the spirit of patriotism, honoring our past, and looking forward to a future filled with hope, unity, and continued blessings. 

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Monroe to be affixed this the 3rd day of July, 2024.
