The City of Monroe is proud to announce that its Downtown has maintained its Main Street Accreditation for another year.

This prestigious recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Main Street program and its community partners in promoting economic development and preserving the historic downtown.

The Main Street program is a national initiative that helps revitalize historic downtowns and commercial districts by promoting economic growth, preserving historic buildings, and supporting small businesses.

2023 Main Street Accreditation

Accreditation is a rigorous process that evaluates a program's performance in four areas: organization, promotion, design, and economic vitality. The City of Monroe's Main Street program has consistently met or exceeded the National Main Street Center's performance standards, earning this recognition for several years in a row.

"The City of Monroe is committed to supporting our downtown and the Main Street program," said Mayor Marion Holloway. "Maintaining our Main Street Accreditation demonstrates our continued dedication to preserving the historic charm of our downtown while promoting economic growth and revitalization."

The Main Street program is a vital component of the City of Monroe's economic development strategy. It has helped attract new businesses and visitors to the downtown, while also preserving the unique character of the historic district. The program has also supported small businesses by providing resources, such as marketing assistance, training, and technical support.

The City of Monroe invites residents and visitors to experience the unique charm and character of its downtown, and to support the local businesses that make it a vibrant and thriving community.
