Effective immediately, the Mecklenburg County Recycling Center (MRF) is no longer accepting recyclables from the City of Monroe. The MRF is shut down to municipalities outside of Mecklenburg County due to  repairs on the equipment and is unsure when they will be able to process additional recycling at this time. In the meantime, Waste Pro will need to divert all recycling material to the Union County Transfer Station where it will be properly disposed.    Please continue to use recycling carts for recycling material only. Waste Pro will take the recyclables back to the MRF as soon as that option is available.

For the time being, here are a few drop-off options to ensure your items are recycled properly:

1. Union County Collections Centers will take your recycling items for free. Please visit their website for locations and guidelines. https://www.unioncountync.gov/government/departments-r-z/waste-and-recycling

2. Grocery stores have collection bins outside of their entrances where you can sort and dispose of your recycling material.

Per the contract, Waste Pro will not service a contaminated cart. Please do not use your recycling cart for extra trash, it will not be serviced. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Should you have additional questions or concerns, please call 704-282-4565 or email solidwaste@monroenc.org.
