The City of Monroe has contracted with an independent contractor to survey all natural gas mains, services, and meters for possible leaks. The survey will begin on Monday, September 26, 2022 and will continue through the end of December 2022. The areas included in this survey are south Monroe, east Monroe, Wingate, and Marshville. A one-man crew will use electronic equipment to identify leaks. The work will require him to walk over the route of the underground natural gas mains and services on customer property and to access every gas meter. This annual leak survey is a requirement of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
