The City of Monroe will officially close Lakes Lee, Monroe, and Twitty for the season on November 2, 2024. Our city lakes are open seasonally from March to November each year, with the anticipated opening for the spring season on March 1, 2025.
Important Information:
- No activities such as fishing, boating, or any other lake-related activities are permitted while the lakes are closed.
- All boats must be removed from the lakes by the closure date.
- In certain extenuating circumstances, dock permit holders may request permission to leave their boats secured and locked to the dock for the winter. Written requests should be submitted by email to the Water Treatment Plant Superintendent David Rankin at drankin@monroenc.org and the Water Resources Administrative Supervisor Sandra Slifer at sslifer@monroenc.org no later than October 31. A City inspector will assess the request to ensure that fuel has been removed and the boat is properly secured.
The City of Monroe complies with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality regulations regarding drinking water supply, as our lakes are classified for this use. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
If you have any questions about the closure, please contact the Water Resources Department at (704) 282-4601.
Thank you for your support!
