Coronavirus/COVID-19 City Information and Updates

In an effort to consolidate all information about City closings, cancellations, modifications, and other actions in response to COVID-19, we have assembled the following information.


Please check here daily for updates regarding City of Monroe closings, cancellations, modifications, and other actions in response to the COVID-19 situation. This page will be continually updated as new information is available.

City Buildings

  • City buildings are open for business as usual.
  • Please read here for new mask policy effective August 23, 2021
    • Masks required when inside City of Monroe Facilities
    • In an effort to help reduce the spread of Covid-19 and the Delta variant, especially as it pertains to maintaining levels of service throughout the City, effective Monday (Aug. 23), masks will be required by the public in all City indoor areas. If you are doing business in person at a City facility, you are required to wear a mask. If you are meeting with City staff or attending a committee meeting, you are required to wear a mask.
    • In turn, City employees will be masked in all indoor City facility public areas. If they are in work spaces where they do not deal with the public and can safely social distance, they have the option to wear masks.

    • Individuals using fitness equipment at the Monroe Aquatics and Fitness Center and the Old Armory Community Center and other recreation centers are not required to wear masks when exercising, but they are strongly encouraged.


Events

  • 2021 Music On Main will begin on the 4th Thursday of every month beginning June – November.  The November concert will be held on the third Thursday (11/18) due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
  • 2021 Car Cruise In will begin on the 2nd Friday of every month beginning June – November.


Parks and Recreation

  • Please read the new mask policy effective August 23, 2021.
  • Monroe Aquatics and Fitness Center is open. 
  • All community center programs are open to the public, including Afterschool programs.  Facilities are open on a normal schedule.  All NCDHHS and CDC guidelines will be followed as it relates to Afterschool and summer camp programming.
  • All community center gymnasiums are open for Open Gym. 
  • Fitness rooms at Dickerson, Old Armory, and Winchester are open on a normal schedule.  Meeting rooms are now available at full capacity.
  • The Ellen Fitzgerald Senior Center is open.  Please call the Ellen Fitzgerald Senior Center at (704) 282-4657 for a program schedule.
  • All outdoor restroom facilities will be open during park hours.  Playgrounds are open to the public.
  • Picnic shelters are open to the public and now available for reservation at an occupancy of 75.
  • All common areas in parks, greenways, and golf courses will remain open with social distancing being encouraged.
  • The Monroe Country Club golf course is open.
  • The Monroe Country Club golf course outdoor patio area is open with no restrictions.
  • The Monroe Country Club Ballroom is now available for reservation.

Fire

  • Fire Station 4 community room remains closed. Staff will be evaluating the situation during this time.


Meeting Cancellations


Solid Waste

  • City solid waste pickup will operate on a regular schedule, but the priority is being placed on household garbage pickup with yard waste and bulky item pickup as a secondary concern.

  • For information for Downtown business owners, read below.
    • Business Link NC - Business Link North Carolina (BLNC) provides business owners with information and resources available from the State of North Carolina to assist their companies, from start-ups to major employers. 
    • Candid  - Candid has created three dedicated websites for collecting and disseminating information on funding and support for nonprofits and small businesses.
    • COVID19 Capital Relief - A comprehensive, searchable database that includes grants, loans, and other cash equivalents that can help entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and businesses anywhere in the world.
    • Small Business Administration - Providing extensive support for small businesses and nonprofits impacted by COVID-19 through low interest loans and other funding programs. PPP and EIDL-Advance funds are dependent on federal appropriation. Check websites listed below for further details. 
    • Federal Resources for U.S. Small Businesses - The official federal resource website for U.S. small businesses affected by COVID-19 (Coronavirus). You can view relevant federal agency resources, access the latest news, and search for a Small Business Advisor near you.
    • Federal Reserve Main Street Lending Program - The program is designed to help credit flow to small and medium-sized businesses and nonprofit organizations that were in sound financial condition before the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, but now need loans to help maintain their operations until they have recovered from, or adapted to, the impacts of the pandemic. The program offers 5-year loans, with floating rates, and principal and interest payments deferred as indicated. Main Street loans are not grants and cannot be forgiven.
