• Provides inspections of new construction and renovations for the residential and commercial buildings located within Monroe City limits in compliance with North Carolina State Building Codes.
• Responsible for technical plan review.
• Enforces Minimum Housing Standards.
• Enforces Public Health Nuisance Ordinances.

The Building Standards Department consists of 3 divisions:

Permit Center:
Facilitates the development review process, issues permits for zoning, building projects and signs within Monroe City limits and extraterritorial jurisdictions (704-282-4524).

Inspections:
Inspects new construction and renovations embracing North Carolina State building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical codes (704-282-4524).

Code Enforcement:
Code Enforcement Officers enforce the City of Monroe Minimum Housing Standards and Public Health Nuisances ordinances on all properties within the Monroe City limits and extraterritorial jurisdictions (704-282-5770).
