Animal Control Unit

The Monroe Police Department has two Animal Control Officers that provide comprehensive animal control for Monroe's citizens. They work to resolve all animal-related problems with minimal amount of stress to the complainant and the animal involved. Duties include:

  • Securing dogs, cats, and other domestic animals that run loose
  • Investigating reports of abandoned animals and cruelty or neglect of animals
  • Assisting injured domestic animals or wildlife
  • Addressing barking problems and vicious dogs
  • Investigating bite calls
  • Enforcing quarantines
  • Securing wildlife for rabies testing when there has been exposure (bite, scratch, saliva) to humans or domestic animals

The Animal Conrtol Officers are on duty Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Police Shift Supervisors make the determination if Animal Control is to be called out after normal work hours.
