Report a Power Outage - (704) 282-4600

We understand how inconvenient it is to be without electricity. That's why we want to make it easy for you to report your power outage and also check the status of our restoration effort. Simply call (704) 282-4600, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.

How the City of Monroe Responds to Restore Power to You!

Electricity is something we often take for granted until there is an outage. The snowstorm of 2000 is still fresh in all of our minds of having to deal with all the damage the storm created, along with having no electricity.

While we can't control the weather, we can take preventive measures to help ensure the reliability of providing electricity to our customers. The City of Monroe's Electric Division works year- round maintaining and inspecting lines and poles, and upgrading facilities, to make sure our system is operating at peak performance.

Power outages can be caused by a number of conditions such as lightning, tree limbs falling on power lines, equipment failures, animal contact with cables or lines, a car hitting a pole, excavation by machinery which inadvertently damages or breaks an underground electric cable, or severe weather.

Whenever your power is interrupted, the City of Monroe's Electric crews immediately implement a power restoration plan, as indicated in the drawing below. When damage to the electrical system is severe and widespread, we cannot respond to every outage at once; therefore, our efforts must be prioritized.

Efforts to restore power to emergency and medical facilities are clearly essential to the health and safety of the public. Our first priority is to restore power to emergency and public service facilities (water treatment and pumping stations). Our second priority is to restore the largest number of customers in the shortest period of time, beginning with the transmission lines, distribution substations, main distribution feeders, and ending with individual customers' service hook-ups. Work usually proceeds in several of these areas at a time.

The City of Monroe's Electric Division strives to provide consistent, uninterrupted electric service 365 days a year, but sometimes unexpected conditions will cause our customers to temporarily lose power. Please be assured that the electric crews will work diligently to get the power back on for you.

If you experience a power outage, quickly report your power outage to the City of Monroe's Electric Division by calling (704) 282-4600. Also see our Power Outage Tips for more ways to deal with a power outage.
